- No.

-
- Because the materials are cheaper. I've certainly never taken a programming
- course, nor a C course. I've read, I've studied, and I've practiced. The
- reason this wouldn't work for surgery is that the practice part could prove
- prohibitively expensive, to say nothing of the moral issues.

- At this point, I doubt I'd take a course in a language I know, and I
- doubt I'd take a course to learn a language; I learned my first
- dozen or so languages just by looking at them and thinking about how
- they work. Sure, I could be a lot better, but it's mostly a matter
- of waiting it out. (I wouldn't mind an intro to Icon, or to any other
- language that's radically different from C.)
-
- But professionalism is not solely dependant on courses; it's dependant
- on a lot of things, and dedication and a willingness to learn are at least
- as important.
